As we all know 2/3rds of the US Senate and all of the US House are up for reelection in 2018. The math favors the Republicans keeping control. There are 35 seats up for election in 2018. These include 26 held by Democrats (or Independents that caucus with the Democrats) and 9 Republicans. Democrats will need to win 28 of the 35 contests. That is no easy feat. Below is one of the races that could be pivotal in this midterm election.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX-Incumbent) vs Representative Beto O'Rourke (D-TX-16)

The incumbent is Senator Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz. He has held the seat since the election of 2012. He ran for President in the Republican primary. He was born in Calgary, Canada but raised in Houston, Texas. The challenger is Representative Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke. He won his seat in 2012. He was born in El Paso, Texas. Both are young men, 47 and 45 years old. Both are married. Both are well educated, one Harvard and one Columbia.

Polls have this being a tight race. No matter which side of the political aisle you are on, I think we all like a good old fashioned race. A unique problem occurs in this situation. Latino voters tend to favor the Democrat candidate but in this case, Cruz, the Republican is Hispanic where O'Rourke is not. A few months ago, if you said the name Beto O'Rourke no one had heard of him outside of Texas. That changed when he won the Democrat nomination.

Tonight we will have the first debate between these two candidates. It's going to be at 6 PM CST (7 PM EST). Are you planning to listen or watch it?
