I have an account with BoA and I'm rather unhappy with some of their services. I have been overseas for a bit and even though they were informed of that and the areas I would be traveling in, they still kept turning my card off "for protection".
The last time, none of their contact numbers worked and the toll-free international number they said to use was not toll free and required (I love this part) a credit card which was why I was calling them.
Not so bad for me since I had a second bank and card which allowed me to get by just fine. But a acquaintance of mine, living on a very limited income from the USA had is card shut down at the same time. He went through two weeks without any money before he could get his card turned on. Serious stress for a guy with plenty of medical problems to start with.
It is hard to feel compassionate toward a bank that is so often not customer friendly. But the bottom line is it is a commercial institution, not a charity or social enterprise. So I guess I don't expect too much from them.
Another friend, a successful guy from Switzerland, had much better experiences with his bank when ever there was a problem. The Swiss banks are apparently much more customer oriented. Of course, the size of his account might have something to do with it.
