Upset with political criticism and what he sees as a pattern of rumors, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is calling for internet regulations, saying that "the Internet cannot be something open where anything is said and done. Every country has to apply its own rules and norms." The statement, in which he singled out a particular media site, once more adds fuel to the fire of media freedom groups who oppose him.

Amazing! A really good ruler may have welcomed the Internet, as that would have given him insight into what the people's thoughts were. Chavez seems to only want to see messages in the Internet that praises him. I guess there is already a seed planted for his downfall, an overthrow of his Government, and another leader in the making. The Internet has to be one of the few freedoms left to express people's views, and if muzzled will create a large number of enemies for him. Wonder how he would be tracking them down as of course most must be posting under pseudonyms?
