So Hurricane Michael displaced quite a few folks, including the homeless and renters. A local UMC in Tallahassee set up a refugee camp to help them out. The refugees that were property owners got help from FEMA and got back to their lives but the homeless and renters 'didn't have property' to be reimbursed for. With no money and the homeless shelters and rental homes destroyed, they had no means or ability to move on.
The local church itself was totally understanding of the situation but the national organization pulled the plug and forced everyone out, not even allowing the refugees to pack. After the camp was cleared, the police came in with heavy machinery and demolished the camp, tents, beds, supplies and personal items included.
Fuck the UMC.
