The count so far is an estimated count. It stands at 232 people dead in a Brazilian Night Club fire. This would be the worst fire in a decade. Though they believe the number to rise but not by much more.

Security is generally tight at nightclubs and the only entry/exit door of the Kiss nightclub was heavily guarded by bouncers, which prevented the hundreds of victims from fleeing the burning nightclub and it was the band on stage which started the fire by using flares.

That's such a shame that many people died from something that really should not be used in such a confined place.

Considering the high number of casualties, someone has to be held responsible for the tragedy and the club owners were grossly negligent of ensuring the safety of the clubgoers and there should have been fire extinguishers on the sides of the stage when the band lit a flair or firework and there was a lack of other security measures such as emergency exits and back-up lighting.

Brazilian police have arrested four people in connection with a fire at a nightclub that killed 231 people in the southern city of Santa Maria on Sunday. A co-owner of the Kiss nightclub handed himself in to police on Monday afternoon for questioning. Earlier, police held another owner of the club, a member of the band Gurizada Fandangueira, and its security chief.

It would seem the bouncers are going to be in quite a bit of trouble.
