Dems loose Senate Seat in Massachusetts

I just could not believe it! I knew Scott Brown was doing well, but not in my wildest imagination did I think the Republicans would be able to win Ted Kennedy's seat. I am very happy about the outcome, and really like Scott Brown.

I wonder what effect this is going to have on the Health Care Reform Legislation, as can this upset the 60th Vote in the Senate? How long would it take for Scott Brown to take his seat in the Senate? Do you think the Dems are going to stall this? Wow, what a shocker to Obama this must have been ........:cry: :skip:

All good questions. I loved the part about the Democrats having "a circular firing squad" even before the polls closed.

I find it funny that Sen. Brown opposes the healthcare bill but supports the quasi-socialist system Mass. already has. Hypocritical much?

While I am not a big fan of Brown, I was glad he was elected because this will likely stop the health care bill from passing. As for your question, technically someone can say that Constitutionally the state legislation is legal and the federal one not.

Being a democrat (or republican, or even anything one may support), do you have to believe in everything your party supports?

Well there are differences on the issues even within each party and there is no official stance on everything, so this isn't really even possible.

In Germany, it is also so. Die Linke has a hugely diverse ideological variety. There is a social democratic platform, a libertarian platform, a reformist platform, a communist platform and a democratic socialist platform within it. That's why Die Linke always stress that the views of Oskar Lafontaine, the chairperson, are not the shared views of the Linksfaktion.

For me it was almost like a Waterloo victory, like a turning point in the Republicans "being down and out" ... and the Democrats being the only viable political party. This election sent a very powerful message to Obama and the Democrats, and probably hit them right in the solar plexus resulting in splitting all those who had been unified for a few brief moments in all directions. Maybe Obama needs to let go of the Healthcare Bill and focus on those areas where he can make a meaningful difference. Surely he has to get a message in this, as if he is going to persist with his Bill, that would have to be the dumbest move ever, like shooting himself in both feet?
