Oh, now there's a story and a half.
Afghans, as a rule, are against the Taliban, but they're often against American occupation as well. Farmers in the middle of nowhere now have to raise cash-crops. Previously, they just raised food sources with a few poppy fields on the side. But now, to get by, they have to raise cash crops. Which means communities often can't provide for themselves, since the occupying troops burn the fields. On the one side, they have to provide for their families, on the other, there's a war on drugs. To be fair, the Taliban in Afghanistan are only an issue in Helmand.
Another problem is that the Government put in place is actually as bad as the Taliban themselves, if not worse. So the farmers suffering can expect no help from the people that exist to do so.
