Recent events have created an atmosphere of direct conflict between Russian and U.S interests. This has escalated to the imminent possibility of air combat taking place either accidentally or with purpose. Should such a thing transpire it is quite likely the result will be Russian casualties at the hands of American military assets. It seems likely as well that Putin would see this as an act of aggression from the United States and react with venomous abandon.

Do you think Putin is trying to create a WAR?

he is just pushing the envelope because he knows he can. who will stop him? Obama? I don't think so.

part of me thinks "who cares let him do it."

That's all good and fine until he accidentally fires on U.S. aircraft. Then we end up shooting down his jet, he get's pissed, and all hell breaks loose.

Have you been paying attention to the actions of Mr. Putin?

Do you believe he is a rational and understanding individual?

I see it quite possible he may actually be trying to create this type of problem.

Traitors on our own side have taken to cheerleading Putin as part of their effort to undermine Obama. The Red Line nonsense (a fight Obama actually won but let's not let fact get in the way) is a classic example.

Putin being an idiot with delusions of grandeur can't recognize the difference between subversive propaganda and reality. This gives him the idea that he and Russia are in a position of strength. This in turn causes him to poke (the nuclear armed, ultra militaristic, rules the world by bribery and fear) America in the eye. All well and good with MAD in play and keeping everyone in check but if he actually crossed the line America wouldn't just take it. If Putin 'accidentally' orders an attack on US or allied forces in Syria, his base goes boom. If Putin doesn't take the hint and retaliates...

i heard an interesting take on Fareed the other day. someone indicated Putin was possibly doing this to get into the good graces of europe, who desperately wants stability in order to stop the immigration crisis. if he gets in their good graces they may lift sanctions and look the other way to his previous land grab.

this makes sense to me.

I'd buy that if Putin was actually doing something to stabilize the region. Alas he's hitting the FSA hard and the IS not at all. You can't hit 1 side in a 3 way civil war, not if you expect said war to end. He'd also be hitting the IS in Iraq (or at least making a show of asking Baghdad for permission) and helping the French in North Africa. He's doing none of this.

Putin wants to end the FSA as they threaten Assad but the IS isn't an existential threat to Syria now that the Kurds have them on the backfoot. As long as that remains true they remain useful for keeping Assad loyal thus the lack of attention by Russia.
