Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens announced today that he was going to resign after serving in the highest court since he was appointed by President Gerald Ford. President Obama is expected to announce a nomination fairly quickly after which the Senate confirmation debates will begin. The nomination will be Obama's second to the Supreme Court, which will certainly be an important part of his legacy and the debate is expected to be very intense and most probably partisan (especially since it is an election year.)

Amazing that they would allow a judge to serve at the age of ninety. The partisan debate surrounding the judges is of course a disaster as well, as how unbiased can one hope the judges to be when their appointments are dominated by party politics.
