With some very big flashy pictures Boston.com shows us the story behind the London riots.
More than 40 people have been arrested after rioting saw police attacked, buildings looted and vehicles set alight in Tottenham, north London.

Twenty-six officers and three others were hurt in the violence which erupted after a protest over the fatal shooting by police of Mark Duggan on Thursday.

Residents surveyed the damage after homes were looted and shops burnt down.

The Metropolitan Police warned over "ill-informed speculation" on social networking sites of further problems.

I think it is sad. So many people using one bad thing as an excuse to loot and burn is more than a shame. These people were thieves and vandals before the police killed anyone. I would suggest turning the military loose on those low-life slugs!

From what I gather, excessive police action is why this is happening (the shooting was just the proverbial straw) so I don't see how that could help. Sort of like throwing aviation fuel on a house fire thinking you'll get the same effect as water. :p

I don't "believe "excessive police action" is even an excuse to loot and burn things that belong to innocent people. Just because a policeman shoots someone I don't know is no reason for me to think I should rob a store and burn down the building. That kind of thinking would be funny if it was not so sad. Ask that woman that had to jump from a burning building if those thieves were justified in what they are doing.

True but the 'riot' is 1,000 or so peaceful protesters and a dozen or so 15 year olds deciding to have some fun while the cops are distracted.

That says a lot about you David. It is a shame they are not doing it in your understanding neighborhood. That is why I fight so hard for gun rights in the US. Let those little punky bastards try that here. The undertaker would be stuffing cotton up their asses and see how many days that went on.

It says a lot about me that I don't confuse a few thugs taking advantage of a situation with legit protesters? It says a lot about you that you think noting the difference is a bad thing.

It makes no difference if it is protesters or thugs if your business is looted and burned. The owner will not notice the difference either.

But I have never been a big fan of protesters.:p

Never said that! I said if they are looting and burning they are thugs and should be treated as such. Makes no difference what they are called.

But you are saying that. You're saying they should send in the military to put down a peasful protest becuase a few troublemakers are taking advantage of the situation. You're lumping them all together.

I don't see much "peaceful" to it. Looks like a big deal to me. Maybe I just take that stuff more serious than some. If I was there for any reason I would go home when the looting and burning started. But I know some people that would protest anything for any reason. You see it all the time. Just like flies to crap. Any reason to hit the street.

Police brutality is a damned good reason though. Besides, the looters have gotten the local Turks and Kurds to make peace.

I don't believe half of those protesting really know what happened. Some of them are not even in the same town.

And I know a lot about "Police brutality". I have been hospitalized by police. I have had my head busted and ribs broken by police. Some of it I deserved.

That kid didn't deserve to get killed.

I don't know the kid or why he was killed. That is for the legal system to decide when they know the facts. Not for a mob to decide on hear-say.

The facts are known, the cops shot him for no reason. You're posting on this but not even paying attention to the situation?

Oh I am paying attention to burning buildings and people carrying out other peoples stuff. I am paying attention to a woman jumping from a burning building. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me. But please stop making up stuff about what I am doing. Because I don't think the burning and looting is doing a damn thing about the guy getting killed. And the protesters are just giving cover to the looters. So now you can try to twist this around to some completely wrong spin about what I said.:p

I see they have some good ideas here.

No, the looters have nothing to do with the protesters yet you want to dismiss the protesters because of the looters. I'm not spinning anything, I'm just pointing out what you're saying and obviously yo know i'm right because you keep dodging the point.

I am dodging nothing. I don't give a damn about the protesters. I am commenting on the looters and you just don't seem to get it. I think you just like being contrary and don't know how to do anything else.:p
