McDonald's Glasses Are Toxic!

So McDonald's has recalled 12 million glasses bearing Shrek images due to a metal on the glass which can be toxic if absorbed by the skin or ingested by licking the picture.

I may be a cynic, but I find their motivation in recalling to be a mere numbers game, not motivated out of genuine concerns for the safety of its consumers.

In other words, they did the math and the cost of recall was less than the cost of paying out a few wrongful death lawsuits. Absolutely disgraceful!

So are you saying they shouldn't have recalled the toxic glasses and allowed more people to get sick?

What is kind of ironic about this whole thing [after the whole lead paint, etc. controversy with China] is that the glasses weren't even made elsewhere, but right here in New Jersey.

Regardless of their reasoning, I am glad they chose to recall and possibly save some lives instead of letting them stay out and a few people dying.

Yeah awesome another side effect to having all our Manufacturing in China. Go Capitalism.. Save 20 cents make the stockholders rich.. kill the people. Love it. This isnt even CLOSE to the first time this has happened either. Paint on kids toys. more poison. Chinese Drywall. How much longer are we as Americans going to let this go on?

Especially when we have American who WANT to work but cant find it. Yet we got boatloads of stuff coming daily from a place that consistently produces low quality items and too regularly for me produces items that are hurting us?

I think it is so funny how you cant go into a store anymore and find something that ISNT made in China. Try it for a month. It is awesome. everyonce in a blue moon you will see a Taiwan in there.

I don't see why a faulty product should lead to an attack on capitalism because things happen- that's life. The alternative is having the government make this sort of good- do you really think it'd be better then? Besides, these glasses were made in New Jersey ;)

No I would like to see Libby Glass in Toledo be the one who made it to be honest instead of those people being out of work or how about Topeka Kansas. Or somewhere in the US. Toledo Ohio. The GLASS capitol of the world they used to say 20 years ago. Now, nothing. unemployment and the rust belt. So people make product out in China import it for a pittance and create social impact. Meanwhile we got people on welfare that WANT to work but dont because there is nothing but McDonalds and big box retail stores. I'm not sure that is capitalism. If it is.. I'm not sure it is in our best interest as Americans. Id like to see something that addresses that. I dont pretend to know what that solution is. I cant help thinking it is causing an impact in this country.

Then you should look at the amount of inspections in the domestic field. There are a lot of flaws in the food industry already but I would never think it'd be going here.

LOL. I was wondering why he was posting all that, seemed a little ridiculous. Americans can make flawed products just like Chinese people lol

Amazing! Wow you think that would have been taken care of here. China you hear all the time about bad stuff over there. Although funny but you havent heard a poison paint problem recently ever since that big media stink a few years ago. Wonder if they figured out bad paint is bad for business and they changed it.

No,

I am saying they only did it for the cost benefit, (ie.) it was cheaper to recall than pay out the lawsuits. Basically they did the right thing for the wrong reason. That is the issue here, and that is one reason why McDonald's is evil!

Well, you can't exactly prove that their reason wasn't the moral one and if you asked they'd probably say it was. If it was a shareholder asking, then they might say it was because of the money ;) At the end of the day, the decision was right, so it doesn't matter.

Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons does not make what has been done noble or commendable. Like all corporations, making money is the chief aspiration. McDonald's, to their credit, fund Ronald McDonald Houses which is a good thing and I take my hat off to them for that. Its a very worthwhile charity.

Not every big corporation does this. For instance, Microsoft or BP.

In the end, however, all is well that ends well (according to Shakespear), so I will not complain or be cynical any longer :)

Clearly this is an ignorant statement. Because, you know, it's not like the creator of Microsoft sponsor's the Gates Foundation which donates absolutely nothing and does nothing for anyone. Check your info before commenting on Microsoft as not doing anything.

The bottom line is that everyone makes mistakes, but it doesn't make them evil. We must not be so incredibly hard on our own american buisnesses when something goes wrong.

If I am correct, a flaw was noticed and a correction was made as soon as possible. I believe for whatever reason they did it, McDonald's made the right decision and I applaud them.

Lets think of who we are critisising before we do from now on.
