But one is needed.

Lol, maybe. Then again, he is running in the largest democratic election of all time which is taking place right now, so maybe not.

But anyway, he is Chief Minister of Gujarat and is running for Prime Minister of India hoping to turnaround the economy as he did in Gujarat. He appeals to the middle class and appears to be a real change to the running Gandhi-Nehru/Congress Party "dynasty". Some consider him controversial, but he is pretty straight in how he communicates and seems to have a vision to move India forward. I for one am looking forward to his term.

It's been my experience that the controversial leaders tend to be the most remembered andbeloved. Change is controversial. As a speciesI believe we are resistant to change but aside from a hand full of throw backs I don't see change as necessarily a bad thing.

I wish the best for India it is my understanding that they have been impacted heavily by the economic turmoil of the past decade. I wonder if it's not related to petroleum demand. But alas I hope the leaders of their nationcan help stimulate their economy.

That doesn't matter. I can equally talk to you about what is happening in Ukraine or China right now. If you care about the news, which I assume most people on this site do, then some of the things happening in those places and India trumps much of what we discuss ad nauseum here even in terms of how much it affects us and will affect us. I'll admit I am not awfully well-versed on Modi compared to most domestic issues, but I try to at least be aware of what is going on (and trying to get more informed).

Back to topic, one of the major concerns is with religious tensions and Modi's past when it comes to that. I don't think it will be as bad as some think and hopefully I am right. The Economist apparently even posted an anti-endorsement based on this.
