Raising the National Minimum Wage does more than move people making $7.25 an hour up to $15.00 per hour. Ever wonder why unions support minimum wage hikes? It's not like union employees make minimum wage. Union contracts have many clauses. In my experience, many of these contracts include an automatic increase to the contractual wage tables to match any increase in the federal minimum wage.
States have been raising minimum wage. The truth is wages are determined by supply and demand. Right now it is an employee's market. Even Walmart hires at $11 per hour. McDonald's $10 per hour.

Tecoyah, there’s been no vote in congress for a proposed $15 per hour federal minimum wage rate to be soon enacted. The rate has, as it always should be gradually modified. Respectfully, Supposn
I’m surprised that anyone would agree to work for $7.25 an hour. That sounds like a pittance.

Just so I can get a grasp on this , I ask How much does a loaf a bread cost there and was does a gallon of milk cost ?
Milk is $5 for 4 litres from 7/11 or 2 litres of milk and a sliced sandwich loaf for $5.
$2.20 for two litres from Woolworths.
the rye bread I buy from the Vietnamese baker is $3, and a white sandwich loaf from Woolworths is $1.60.
Sallyally, I’m paying over $4 a Gal in NJ 7/11’s, as compared to $2.20 35 per 2 liters = $4.40 per 1.05 Gallons in an Australian 7/11. (At NJ supermarkets it’s about $3.90/Gal).
I buy an excellent loaf of rye from our local baker for $3/lb., which may or may not equate to Australia’s Vietnamese’s $3 loaf.
I don’t buy the 1.5 loafs of white air-filled sandwich breads that sell for as little as $1.60 to less than $2 in supermarkets, which may be better or worse than Australia’s $1.60 Woolworth’s loafs of bread. Respectfully, Supposn

our dairy farmers are doing it hard. The supermarkets screwed them down and there was milk that was $1 a litre. Many dairy farmers have left the industry. Drought and poor returns on investment.
