A very interesting talk (as most of Tyson's are). I will try to find the full version later and I'll share it if I do:

Edit: I believe I found the full version. Haven't watched it yet, but will soon-

I always found Mr. Tyson to be a great scientist and personality...reminds me of Sagan. In this case the observation that ID and God are the result of limited knowledge and understanding makes sense. Not a debasement...a simple understanding based on observation and research.
One of the most beautiful aspects of scientific growth (to me), is the constant change in understanding leading to changes in us.

Absolutely. It is the acceptance that nothing we know is necessarily certain (and that doesn't have to be a dark thought).

I found the parts about Islam and science especially interesting- I never knew about that- will probably look for further reading on the subject.

In the past....the Arab world was the power behind science. Unfortunately, Islam seems to have destroyed this aspect of the Arab mentality. By reversing the progress of a civilization I personally feel the Islamic Religion has caused more fundamental damage than any other faith in the world...which is saying something.

I wouldn't blame the entire religion, but the individuals within it who caused the change. I don't think it is fair to blame the whole religion though- too stereotypical in my opinion (there are still many pro-science Muslims for one).

Though I agree with the jist...Just as child molestation in the Catholic Church would not be what it is without Dogmatic mentality and corruption leading the way, the Arab World would not be less advanced than much of our planet were it not for the faith.
