Obama not a 'Natural born' American?

So here is the argument... And of course, most people who debate it end up agreeing to disagree.

Many people just do not believe the 'Certificate of Live Birth' that was supposedly presented from Hawaii. At the same time, the other side will swear up and down that the cert. is 100% authentic, and proof enough that he was born in the USA.

I dunno what to believe. I am obviously open to ideas.. I would love to see what a Chief Justice decides though!

Well, I've heard about this one during the election... well posed itself as one anyway. We all knew who was gonna win. Anyway... I said to my friend back then something along these lines: "They won't pull this little bit of information out now. Everyone loves the guy. And even if they do I wouldn't want them too. They way I figure it, once Obama gets elected all this bull about me being racist will die just because I'm white."
And now that Obama is elected, I still think that way. Pull this from him after all that, and once again the race card will come back. I'm glad I'm not labeled a bigot anymore just because my ancestors might have done something to a slave way back in the day. (actually my people were slaves too... but you don't hear me complain about the Egyptians... or the Nazi's for that matter.)
Anyway that's my view on things.

The more interesting thing is that McCain wasn't born in the US. He was born in Panama. So, is an American citizen who gets his citizenship because his parents are citizens really a 'natural born citizen'?

What do you mean by "natural born"? I remember he's a son of an African father and American mother and was born on Hawaii then they moved to Indonesia and then to the US. Am I wrong?

The constitution specifies that the president must be a natural born citizen. That means a citizen by right of birth, rather than one that has been naturalized by immigrating and applying for US citizenship. Arnie was originally Austrian, and became a citizen of the US as an adult, and therefore can't be president.

There were some discussions orginally because people thought Obama was born in Hawaii when it was a territory, then people started saying that both parents would have had to be American citizens when he was born.

The McCain thing was bogus, too. I think he was born on a military base, and even if he wasn't, his parents were American citizens so he was, too.

Well i am not aware of the constitution of United States but according to me, it doesnt matter whether a person took birth in that country in order for him/her to love that country.. If Obama works hard ( which i believe he is ), there should be no restriction on him (or others like him) in order to work for the country and betterment of the fellow citizens..
and as far as i think, Obama rocks..!!

I wish I felt like you do about Obama. I have no confidence in him at all. He is a "scary" dude to me. I try to forget he is even there. But he stays on TV about everyday. He like some others before him is feeling the "power". As far as I am concerned he is just sitting in the chair until we get a "real" president.
By that time I guess we will owe about 110 trillion dollars around the world. In my opinion he is a classic "Tax and Spend" democrat supreme.

Honestly, the same people crying and whining about this are the ones with tin foil on their hands awaiting the second comign of christ. The right wing has had their panties in a bunch for 8 years and counting and frankly, its getting ridiculous.

OK, I'll say it. Republicans are in general (I'll make an exception for Schwarzeneggar, who has common sense) incompetent idealogues who think the purpose of government is to make their rich constituents even richer, and who cater to the religious right because they need the votes and those people, who are mostly not rich, are too wrapped up in their religion to realize they are being had.

Just look at people like Jindal and the other governors who are going to refuse part of the stimulous money for ideological reasons. What in the world gives Jindal the right to refuse increases in unemployment benefits and extension of the time they are available? He has a job. He has money. And he doesn't care at all what happens to the people of Louisiana.

I disagree. That is the same old song the democrats have been singing for years. I was a democrat for 22 years. I used to go to their meetings and put up posters. I changed to Republican back in the 80s. No I am not rich. I live on Social Security along with a very sick wife. We did not take that so called stimulus check from the government last year. Why? Because I did not pay it in, why should I get it back?
You need to know more about Republicans first hand before you paint them all with "general" comments. Schwarzeneggar is no more a Republican than Gore is. He has been sleeping with a democrat too long and feeding at their trough. I understand how that can happen. My dad was on one side and my mother on the other. So I lived with all the arguments for years. And to be honest as we all should be, neither side has clean hands. And both should shut up and try harder to do what is right. But they can't quit playing politics long enough to do much good for the people.

There is my short and sweet version of this stinky old subject.

I could have done more about how democrats think their constituents are too stupid to run their own life. Some of them seem to think all things should be run by government. And we all know what a fine job government does running things.

I think I know a good deal about both parties. I admire you for sticking with your convictions about the stimulous payment. But how far does that extend? Our Social Security payments don't come from the money we paid in, they come from the people who are working now. Are you going to stop taking that? And what you pay for Medicare doesn't come close to covering the cost of the insurance. Or did you turn Medicare down? These are, after all, programs designed by the Democrats to redistribute wealth.

I take the Social Security because they made me pay into when I was working. And I have been on Medicare since 1986. They have been taking Medicare deductions from my Social Security all these years. They spent their 1st dime on me last Nov. for one office call. So in all those years they have spent $88.00 on me. I really think they get off easy on me. I went to the doctor twice in 7 years. Never paid enough out of pocket for Medicare to kick in until then. Had a little blood pressure problem last year and had to go 4 times. Blood pressure was 220 over 200. My doctor said he did not want to interfere with "my death plans, but a stroke is an ugly way to die".

And I do hate that "redistribute wealth" crap.

There was an old saying when I was growing up. "Let every tub sit on it's own bottom". Most people now don't even understand what that means. But I am just fine driving my 1978 Dodge one ton pickup. And if I ever get the money I will have my 1977 Chevrolet Caprice fixed. Then my wife can go to her doctor appointments much easier. See our Democrat governor stopped her from riding the "community bus" "because there is at least one registered automobile at this address". Makes no difference if it is operable or not. He also stopped our gas tax from going down so he can build more roads we really don't need. Guess he has friends in the road construction business.

The thing is, where do we draw the line. If no one should get anything they haven't paid for, we would have a policy that determined how many of a family's children could go to a public school based on the amount of property tax they pay, and you wouldn't be allowed on the interstate if you hadn't paid enough in gasoline tax the previous month. The police would provide service based on your income, and if you were poor, your house would be left to burn. But we don't do that because it is against the public interest and that isn't the kind of country we want to be.

No one ever complains about the things they benefit from, just the ones that benefit others.

I assume that when you (and your wife?) have used up the amount of money you paid into Medicare you will stop using it.

This country was founded and did make it for a very long time without Medicare or any other kind of redistribution of wealth. As far as the interstate thing. I can't mow my yard without paying gas tax. I pay sewer tax on the water I use in my garden. That water never goes anywhere near the dang sewer. I bought my cell phone in another town in another county. But I pay a dang county tax on using it even if my county has had nothing to do with it. The phone tower is not even in this county. Our county passed a law that only one company can pick up trash. Made my bill go up as well. I would give all their "help" up if they would just get the H... out of my life. They hurt me more than they help me.

Why not let the ones having children by the litter pay more? Is there some shortage of children. We have more children now than we have homes for them.

I'm an expat and currently resident in a country in the Middle East where nobody pays taxes, but we do pay heavily for any services that we use. And it works well. I have an enormous bill for water and electricity, I pay a big bill when I register my car every year, another bill for when I renew my Visa, etc. etc. so at least know that what I pay is for the services I receive, and not more than that. I think it is time that the US completely recreate its economy and tax system, in fact, it should do away completely with taxes as that was supposed to have been a temporary measure anyway, and start from scratch. Same with the Banks that also need to be recreated from scratch by completely stripping away the bureaucratic parts that are so very expensive to only leave the functional parts that serve the customers.

I am free of all eight of my former credit cards.I finally figured out if I can't afford to buy it I sure can't afford it + interest. I grew up on a farm where we milked cows, raised hogs, chickens and had two large gardens and our own apple and pear trees. We had more food than we could eat and went to town once or twice a month. We burned wood from our own trees too. It was a very stress free world for me at that time. And I still miss it.

Your comment about the house being left to burn is quite accurate for early America, particularly in the cities where "volunteer" fire companies provided protection and you had to have paid for it (shown by a plaque or shield attached to your residence).

Limiting the garbage service to one company was probably a "deal" cut in a back room. It happens all over. We all have our pet peeves when it comes to a tax that we don't benefit from. I think the Chinese got there first on the "too many kids" tax, though.
