Obama and his campaign raised $68 million in Q4 of 2011. If I remember correctly that puts him at over $150 million total not counting unofficial money that will go to support his campaign through PACs, etc.

Maybe he can buy 4 more years. I will never understand spending that much money for a job that pays a fraction of that.

I wish there was a way to cut back on some of the money. There used to be "election years". Now someone is running for something every year.:(

We have the best candidates that money can buy. Pity, none of them are the best for America.

Well it is donations, they can't spend that much out of pocket- I think they are limited to the same restrictions as everyone is. Also the pay is mostly in benefits (both official and unofficial), not so much the actual salary (the benefits are easily worth more than 400k/year for 4 yrs).

Anyone should be able to contribute anything they want to political campaigns. The people who are always trying to war on free speech should instead focus on an educated public which is not receptive to shallow propaganda and demogogy. A good start on that would be privatizing education.

No war on "free speech" from me. I would just like to have one year out of four without a damn election. Hell do we have to hear "and I approved this message" from someone every damn time we turn on a tv or radio? Enough of anything is enough!
