I think this is very poignant to a person in my line of work. When dealing with battling monsters it's very easy to become one.
One problem - the abyss has no eyes.
You've obviously never seen the abyss before.
Actually, it is quite unclear what it actually is! :unsure:
In the quote the abyss is proverbial. The abyss of human depravity, the abyss of hatred, anger, you name it.

not necessary philosophical but i had an old boss, horrible man, who would get laughing at something and exclaim:
"oh shit who has more fun than people!?"

LOL!!!
I had a boss at L-M (not horrible in any way) when you greeted him & asked how he was doing, he'd exclaim "Mean, ornery, and hard to get along with".
Sounds like my old boss. I always replied by calling him a dirty old man.
