Okay, some of us obsess about other things too. I guess we should shy away from the topic at some point. But there are so many differing views of that which a woman "gives for money, what she should give for love" to quote William Acton.
In the USA and in the Philippines (two places I have spent time in) prostitutes are at the bottom of the social scale. Yet in Thailand, I am told they hold a higher place in society and older women who spent their youth as sex worker is not so stigmatized by her past. In fact, if she has been successful in putting money aside for her old age, she can be respected. Again, this is word of mouth, I have not spent time in the country and gotten to know natives there that would share such insights with me.
But places with strong Christian influences seem to both tolerate and despise sex workers. An interesting dichotomy.
