Predictions for the fiscal cliff

It seems the election is over, and within a week we should get back to normal. My personal hope is for a "New" normal where our government actually manages to work.

I predict a shift in both the President and the Opposition, as the alternative would be terrible, and they both know it. Likely Obama will change the upper tax bracket to be returned to Clinton percentages...and the pledge will be dismissed.

Shit will hit the fan if we go over. It'll amount to a 95% tax increase and the near total defunding of the USA. We'll be missing the days of the Great Depression it'll get so bad.

I see some signs from both sides of a willingness to compromise. Hopefully the upcoming meeting in the White House leads to something...otherwise we need to pray for Congress, and no God can fix that.

If this does indeed happen, it seems to me the beginning of an end.

They will be pushed against a wall and they will get something done. Obviously not something that is most effective or the best (it is Congress we are talking about), but something.
