I think he pretty much says they have no chance of ever doing it actually.

Maybe you should read it again. Here is a quote directly from the article: "And if the US were to climb back within the coming ten years to where its finances were in 2001, when revenues were 19.5 per cent of GDP and the budget was 18.2 per cent of GDP, it will be in a position to contain its debt and start to gradually reduce its size. Well what a lovely discussion I stumbled into. I'll just do the most responsible thing and ignore it. Here are my results:

Jill Stein - 81% (Domestic, Social, Environment, Healthcare, Science)
Barack Obama - 73% (Social, Immigration, Science, Environment)
Rocky Anderson - 62% (Social, Healthcare, Environment, Economic)
Gary Johnson - 62% (Foreign, Social)
Mitt Romney - 5% (Nothing)
Virgil Goode - 1% (Nothing)

Where I disagreed with Jill Stein:
I don't support offshore drilling either, but I wanted to nationalise Energy.
I don't like corporations funding campaigns either, but I still think unions should be able to.
I don't think we should give equal support to Palestine, as it is not as progressive as Israel.
I don't support military intervention anywhere, but I support South Sudanese secession and peace initiatives.
Other disagreements were largely a matter of phrasing.

Incidentally, I was quite surprised how much I agree with Obama - I suppose that theory and practice are different things, though.

Green Party - 83%
Democrat - 79%
Libertarian - 24%
Republican - 1%
