Do you think that african american people can still claim that they are being treated unfairly and biased now that a black man has the highest office in the land? Hell, BO is the most powerful man in the world.

I don't think I'd get too cheerful just yet. His election does signify that a majority of Americans (a fairly large majority) were able to look past his race. That's about it though. That minority might still have a lot of power for actions that affect them in their everyday lives. Some have also been arguing that he wasn't black enough (I thought I heard Jesse Jackson getting some people riled up over it). A dumb argument, but it shows that there will always be some tension.

Either way, it is a good sign of how far we've come.

Yeah, the election just shows that people can actually think past races now. Even for all the voters for McCain, I'm sure it wasn't just because he was white, rather he has more experience, been through rougher times (his young life story was very interesting during one of his speeches :p), and he's just a lot more wise. The voters for Obama probably just wanted change, decided to vote a black president for a change, and probably didn't think about how much difference he was actually going to make. Let's just hope he does something about this global crisis, we really need it.

African americans can now say we have a fair political system. Now they can also participate in the corrupt 2 party system and maybe if they are lucky they can also participate in another lie of a war like iraq like all the presidents before have.

Yeah, it seems like what MLKJ wanted all came too.

I remember one of his speeches, but I think he wanted all the people of America to have equal rights, and I think that just came true in 2009.

We now have had pretty much every colour presidents (besides Asian ones I think.. Asians aren't the type that gives good speeches either, lol), so it seems like all is going well for America, besides the financial and global warming issue.

Let's just see what he can come up with in the future. :D

I think it will give them a moral support as now BO is the mst pwerful man of USA....but it doesn't mean that they can make the full use of him...every constitution has something different and the parties need to follow that constitution.....

Obama's victory has showed the world that racial differences have begun to be truly put aside, and that there is equal opportunity. However, it is also important to note that Obama obviously had to have had connections and money to get that far. So, had he been born to a less wealthy family, he'd probably would have not gotten that far.

Therefore, while race does not dominate, money still does.

Obama cant be compared to mlk. Mlk actually came from a middle class family if my memory still serves me correctly but Obama is now in the back pockets of the special interest groups who brought him to power. Lets hope that they finally understand that its the middle class that powers the economy and not the fat and rich ceo's who are getting bonuses for running their companies into the ground.

Yeah, Obama probably is the strongest and most powerful (not literally) person in the world at the time being. Race in politics can always be argued both ways, but I really don't think the blacks can continue complaining anymore just because of that step America has taken in electing Barack Obama for president.. if they're going to complain any further, they'd better get some valid reasons with some supporting facts or they are just going to ruin their own reputation with the rest of the country even more.. and they don't want that, I'm sure.

I would tell them not to get too confer table, after all USA is still controlled by white men, and some are probably not so happy that BO is trolling around being President of the US, while he is black. I just would just tell them, skin colour doesn't make a difference, the attitude and how well they are at controlling the country is what counts!

Now Michael Steele is chair of the RNC. How many of you think he's just a show and tell "Uncle Tom" or does he actually have some substance?
