Ach I just remembered I think the gov. gets to appoint his replacement, so you're probably right. Does replacement have to run in November, or does he get a free couple years?

I mean if I'm honest I don't think there's going to be much of a blue wave this fall. A little lapping at the shores, maybe. Hard to say. The GOP has done a stellar job of locking up a lot of districts through gerrymandering and voter suppression. Go ahead and gloat while you can. The more you stretch a rubber band, the more energy it has when it finally breaks. ;)

Each state is a little different on the rules for replacing a sitting senator that leaves office. Arizona requires the governor appoint someone from the same party as the senator vacating the office. In this case, the replacement will run in 2020. If he has passed prior to May 30, the replacement would have to run in 2018. This makes sense due to time limitations to have a primary election and general election.

I voted for McCain when he ran for president and I admire his service and sacrifice to country.

Maybe the dumbest thing Trump said/did while running was to disparage McCain's service. McCain's ego was wounded and there was no making amends after that.

Misspeaking seems to be his greatest weakness.
