That will not happen. Too many here want our money to be spent here. They are waking up to the thought that we can't "help" these people. They are stuck a couple of hundred years in the past. We should have just left them there. But now many of them want to go back.
What won't happen? We already have those bases. And have you ever thought that it might never have been about helping them and maybe just about having an empire and selling out to the military industrial complex?

Back when I first learned how the Taliban treated their people I wanted to help. Well color me dumb! Some of them will welcome them back at the first opportunity. And when they do, so be it. Let them have each other.
Most people probably do not want them. If that base weren't there, the Taliban might not even be able to gain power. It could be that the Taliban got into power BECAUSE of the US.

We will not stay there for years to come. We are broke, when the money is gone the "military industrial complex" spending will have to slow down.

As for the Taliban coming back to power, that is up to the people. They know the Taliban. If they think the Taliban treated them better than we have let them have it. They are in a position to go either way. They will get the government they deserve in the end.

The point is that should this theory be valid, they will get mad so long as that base/our policies stay. And the idea that we are broke in that we can't repay debts is a myth. Who else in the world can borrow below 2% over 10 years? There is a long way to go before we end up broke in the sense that you are saying we are- hopefully we can turn things around before that.

See you have more faith in them than I do. I think they will borrow and spend as long as they can. They will even
borrow it and then give it away. How long can that last? There are millions of people that will never go back to work. That means fewer people to pay off the debt. The debt can get to the point we can't pay it at 0%.

My guess is the US will still be in the hole 40 years from now when you are my age. And by then even you will be tired of it.:)

I am tried of it, but I understand that the world still wants our debt so especially when you frame it in a context like you have here (that the military bases won't last long because of money issues) the debt argument doesn't work. We are in recovery, austerity isn't proven to be completely successful (if not proven to be the opposite), and there is no need to mix both. Cut wasteful spending, yes, but massive austerity should probably wait until a stronger recovery. It is during times of prosperity that we need to really do most of the turning of the ship. Until then we should focus on certain systemic reforms that better the current situation without hampering recovery (i.e. reform taxes, patents, etc.), but of course there is no political will to do that.

Right now I tend to favor a "scorched earth" policy. Do what should have been done ten years ago. Turn it into a ant-farm.

But I am also frustrated that after so much death and destruction very little has been accomplished. So disappointing.

this will only cause the americans to be view as monsters what we need to do is pack troops into afaginstan and march into pakistan with the approval of our allies the french and british ect. then cover the country with drones basicly have a massive crackdown no stoping until we are finished

We are already viewed as monsters in many places. What we really need to do is march our ass out of there. It is a lost cause. Cut our loses and learn our own lessons.

We don't need to hold their hand forever. Nation building can only work when the people really want it. We need to take care of our own nation before we can run some country that is hundreds of years behind. And they seem to like it well enough.
