Here in Texas we had a proposal to require identification to vote. The US government battled Texas over this. I am left wondering why, shouldn't we protect our process from fraud, or at least attempt too?

Why is it so horrible to ask for identification? Whos rights are violated by asking you to prove you are you? How could this possably be discrimination?

I don't think it's so much the IDs as it is how to get them. Are they free, easy to get and can they be issued at the polling places? If the answer to any of these questions is no, you'll end up with more disenfranchised voters then fraud and that's where the gov't attacks come in. People already need a registration card to prove they can vote, issue a photo ID then once they show the card or mail 1 (using their DL photo) when they 1st register and do it for free.

i can register many times. Nobody bothers to check that. I dont have to present my voter rgistration card. There is no way to tell if i have voted under a different registration. I am perfectly okay with that system working currently it does not. Ids cost time only, you need some form of proof that you are who you are.

Oh, I agree with the whole ID thing. I'm just saying if it's not easy to get, possible to get at the time of voting and free, the gov't has a case because if even 1 of those is not the case more voters will be left out then fraud prevented.

US citizens will shortly have to prove they have health insurance. I wonder how they are going to be able to do that without an ID of some kind?

But if you are NOT a US citizen and are here illegally you will get FREE health insurance.

Interesting question: How does one prove they are here illegally? If you know, let me know because I want to claim "illegal" status so I can get free stuff from MY(?) government.

Having an ID to vote will not, repeat, NOT solve a thing. An illegal here in Texas can register to vote and can get a TX ID. So what you have is an IDed illegal, illegally voting. What a system...................................not!

There are things that can be done, but why mention them? They will never be seriously debated nor actually put into law.

I wonder if they could issue some sort of paper-based temporary free ID for those who need them at the DMV/Secretary of State's office. Might be a step in the right direction?

314,000,000 people in the United States, not including the 11,000,000 illegals.

So, if every single Illegal bothered to get an I.D, then go to the polls and vote.

314/11 = 0.035

How many votes won past elections in Florida, or Minnesota, or Washington?

Why would you want any, even one, illegal, to vote?

I would not!

Why would you want any, even one American Citizen, be unable to vote?

I want every US citizen that is a real person, alive and not voting more than once, that wants to vote should vote.

Then, I want all votes casted, and only those votes that were casted, be counted for whom they were casted.

Please, tell me what is wrong with that?

You're proposed methodology.

You're proposed methodology.

1. Purge all existing voter registration roles, especially of the dead.

2. Set up an all state intra state voter registration coop to check for multiple registrations, deaths and legal status. Keep the federal government out of this system.

3. Require all registrations to be in person and with proof of citizenship and eligibility.

4. Show an ID at the poll to vote.

5. Early voting in person only and only for two weeks prior to the general election date.

6. Get rid of ALL of these computer voting machines. Use paper only.

Most other rules, regulations and laws should be reviewed to ensure that they do not keep anyone from voting that wants to vote and is eligible to vote.

There, that is a start.

I know we've discussed this before, but I'll say it again- I think this is one of the most bizarre requests out there. In terms of record keeping, it is still impossible for any person to see all the votes from a population of xxx, xxx, xxx and bugs in the program can (and I am sure are) easily be sorted out before an election under the supervision of authorities and both parties.

Might as wells say I don't trust electronic paper, I only want stacks of cash.

Not even close to the same thing.

Think about it. When you make an electronic deposit or payment you have the means to ensure it was accomplished and accurately. In voting, no way.

What means? It's not as if a receipt printout that you get when you vote really changes anything.
