Alexander the Great's Macedonian empire was fairly large and great, although when juxtaposed against Genghis Khan's Mongolion Empire, it's fairly small. The two most powerful empires in history would be the Mongolian Empire and the British Empire, prior to WW2, the empire was the largest in the world for quite a while.
