This series is being repeated on TV at the moment. It's about the intelligence of Dolphins and Whales. If you have time, please watch it, there are things you might not know :)

I like to watch nature shows, and I agree dolphins are intellegent, I cant wait to see if they ever do learn dolphin language, that will be yet another animal we can comunicate more intellectually with. I object to their slaughter, as well as other animals. But what do we do to stop people from doing such? Laws are ineffective, unless you have a world government you can't have world law.

The efforts of the sea shepards only worsen the problem. Insted of harvesting one the whalers have to harvest two, because they can't do anything until the whale is hrpooned. And if one dead whale spoils they will take another, they don't want to go home with no money.

I think the way to fix the problem is to change hearts and minds. I never really respected animals for what they were until i actually hunted one an ate it's flesh. I respected the life it had to live, it's ability to adapt and overcome, a trait man does not share. It's freedom, aand it's sacrifice. I am not saying people should hunt to learn respect for their fellow lifeforms, but experiancing the rabbit's life made me respect it. And many times i go into the woods just to photograph the wild life. I am not a good photographer but what i enjoy is seeing it in its coexistence with us.

The only way to get people to stop killing whales, outside of changing their minds, is to kill or inprison them, i agree killing certian creachers whales, dolphins, elephants, gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees, horses, dogs, penguins, sea lions. And other forms of life who exist on a higher level intellectually than most life forms is ethically questionable. But just like the way we stopped people from killing gorillas we didn't desire products made from them any longer. The same can be done for whales and dolphins, i am not sure what the products dirived from whales are, but what ever they are, they must be expensive, if we simply change our opinions, we will not have to worry. Telling people that they are monsters, that will never work.

Here is another animal gone forever whose decline came about through hunting.

Tortoises were plentiful on the Galapagos islands until the late 19th century, but were later hunted for their meat by sailors and fishermen to the point of extinction.
