Corals are extremely temperature sensitive and cannot live or grow in waters significantly warmer than they started in. The issue is not so much warming oceans as the speed with which the changes are taking place. It is similar to the whole Global warming problem...sure the planet was warmer long ago, but it happened over tens of thousands of years. This has become pretty bad in a single century and things have no chance to adapt.
