Here is a short list of problems with our "democracy".... (exactly how do we practice "democracy", by the way? By voting???)
gerrymandering
purges of various kinds
Citizens United
Moving polling places at the last minute
Mailing out "voting date" notifications as one day AFTER the real voting day.
Mailing out false voting locations
Providing far too few voting booths/machines for a known community size.
ALL THE ABOVE ARE REPUBLICAN TRICKS
And there are other issues, too ......
Absence of an audit trail
Hackable voting computers
Voting software that registers a vote for a candidate that wasn't selected.
Voting on weekdays instead of weekends (vote-by-mail would solve LOTS of problems)
Like it or not, the electoral college disenfranchises a HUGE number of voters.
PACs
SuperPACs
Campaign contribution sources and size limits giving the wealthy too much power.
Lack of ranked choice voting stops us from knowing and accounting for the people's REAL preference.
Media manipulation of candidate popularity.
Ads provided by entities other than the candidate
The only question is whether a measure makes voting easier and more reliable, or more difficult and/or could decrease reliability.
