In the end it is a move to try to help the people, so it is a good thing. Does the name really matter that much anyway? (And I doubt most people will stop calling it Topeka any way

I like the idea, although of course it is a marketing thing as well, but as MYP said, the people from the city will be benefitting by getting faster Internet. Actually a nice idea with positive energy in it.

I am pretty sure the name change is temporary either way, but if they don't get picked then they will almost definitely drop it immediately.

Agreed. Definitely temporary. Probably just a way to "lure" Google. Once Google has made its selection, it will end there and then.
