I watched the programme and found it very interesting. It seems that Leonardo had all the skills and opportunities to make the fake with the final tongue-in-cheek action of using his own likeness for the figure...given that he was not a believer.
If there was a real shroud I doubt it would still be reconizable. And old Leonardo would not be the first or last to treat religion as a joke.

leo did not paint the shroud of turin because the myth of it being painted existed long before the time of his birth so in effect he could not have painted the actual shroud but as for him creating a fake it would have disenagreted a long time ago what you could do is carbon date the material because it is not over 60,000 years old

McCrone, having noted that the shroud had suddenly appeared in 1356 in the hands of a French knight who would not say where it came from and that a local bishop soon thereafter claimed that an artist “cunningly painted” it, declared it a painted fake.

It isn't painted.

The programme I watched explained that no paint is present but that a basic camera-obscurer would and could make the same scorch marks onto linen.
All the equipment needed to do this was readily available in Da Vincis time.

did they carbon date the material like i suggested on this program
