Because the whole capitalist system collapsed on our heads. My generation is working part time, for less money, living with relatives and crippled by student debt for degrees that went from $50k starting to fucking min wage.

That's not going to lead to heathy life choices. The generation that grew up in Russia after the Soviet collapse has reacted the same way, it's human nature unfortunately.

I think in some ways it is wise to think global when it comes to opportunity.
Develop a skill set that is it in demand (through college or otherwise...See Mike Rowe for details)) and then market it globally. Be willing to move not just within the US but internationally.
