US could arm Syrian rebels

myp, et al,

We have our own trouble with government and the National Security Decision Making Process.

Note that I am not making the argument to go in, but instead to send weapons, and that too should not necessarily be done, but be considered if (and only if) it is a matter of fighting a subjectively cruel and evil regime. If we as a world decided that we will stop genocide (as the UN has, although doesn't always take seriously) and we would stop another Hitler, then this question has to be re-answered for a case like Syria.
(COMMENT)

Congress, as they find it easy to lie and stable people in the back, --- as well as, the Administration, once give a Green Light, operate under the adage "In for a Penny - In for a Pound," find "mission creep" almost irresistible. The Syrian Project, may start out innocently, small arms, a few rockets and medical supplies, THEN - it will be intelligence specialists and military advisers, THEN - air support, THEN more advisers --- then an airborne unit, THEN a Command & Control team... Pretty soon, it will be USF-S (US Forces - Syria) and we will be fighting another band of insurgents for a decade.

You can't trust Washington to keep it simple. Once it starts - once we start to support a faction, they will become "our side." Then there will be pleadings that "our side" is losing --- and the escalation will begin.

Most Respectfully,
R
