Can you believe it? So much for global warming. :(

Dale Earnhardt Jr. walked away from plenty of hard crashes throughout his NASCAR career, so he quickly shrugged off a weather-related traffic accident he was involved in Wednesday.

Earnhardt Jr. was out for a drive in North Carolina's Piedmont region, which has received several inches of snow since dawn. Snow in that area is a relatively rare event, and just a few inches is enough to shut down schools and business while creating havoc on the highways.

After stopping to help one motorist that had run off the road, Junior himself said he "center punched a pine tree." He quickly shared his adventure on Twitter, assuring fans he's OK.

Driving in snow = idiocy. Hardly weird that a guy skilled at driving in a roundabout for the entertainment of drunk rednecks has issues in unsafe driving conditions.

Stupid comments. I lived in Colorado for eleven years. My house was at an elevation of 8700 feet. I never ran off the road or got stuck. Most of the time it was done with an ordinary two wheel drive vehicle.

However, that was on generally "dry" snow. Driving in warmer wet snow is a whole different matter. Given Dale Earnhardt's ability, I am surprised that he lost control even under those conditions.

I enjoy watching NASCAR. The drivers are incredibly talented at speeds approaching two hundred miles an hour inches apart. It is matter of skill and strategy. Like any other sport, you have to understand the sport to like it.

I have never been a heavy drinker and gave it up completely a number of years ago. I simply do not like the feeling.

When we lived in northern Alabama for 18 mos. in early to mid 80s, I went out & about in my Isuzu P'Up right after an ice storm and the whole town was shut down. NOBODY was on the road. In any empty grocery store parking lot, I TRIED to skid and slide. Was not even that easy to do.

Only trouble I had was getting up our dead end street, as it was uphill quite a bit (not much weight on drive wheels).

I rag on NASCAR becuase it's easy (and I find Formula 1 more entertaining). I fully understand that legit skill is involved. I considered getting into racing myself WAY back when but my folks wouldn't have it outside a go kart and my interests moved on as I grew older.
