President Nazarbayev predicts Kazakhstan’s GDP will continue to rise
President Nazarbayev believes that the impressive growth rate that Kazakhstan has witnessed in recent years will continue in the near future. He predicts that in 2015-2016 per capita GDP will amount to around USD 20,000. The President was speaking at an event held in Astana on November 29 to mark 20 years of the “Bolashak” program that has sent thousands of young Kazakhstanis abroad to study at some of the world’s best universities. Another sign of progress is that Kazakhstan now holds reserves of USD 100bn, the President said. However, he pointed out that Kazakhstan will not rest on its laurels. To be in the top 30 most developed countries in the world by 2050 – the target of the Strategy “Kazakhstan-2050” – GDP must reach USD 60,000 per capita.
