Agreed. Money can make the world go round and round. Another thing to consider is "pride." Pride eats peoples minds and one, high ranking poilitician, is thinking that no one under him/her, or lower positions, can beat him/her. Many tend to corrupt to stay in position which leads to vote buying and such. There are no way to stop corruption except from you yourself. The government people must realize that they mustn't harm their countries by doing corruption and just think about themselves. Goverment people must think about their countries, how to make their countries prosperous. But, i think nowadays, government people that only think about their countries is almost zero. Everyone think about how to make money faster, etc.
But even though people were educated, they also tend to break the rules. Take for example the traffic enforcers. They were educated and told by their leader not to accept bribe. But when drivers break the rules and get caught, they tend to bribe the officer to refrain from getting caught.I think more than money, although possibly this will cost money, is education of people. When people are educated they may be in a better position to take a position in society with a strong self-esteem.
True. Maybe we need a new generation of charismatic leaders so that people can be motivated from within to not go for corruption. Hitler was a crazy person, but at least he had the gift of the gab and tools to rally people to a cause. We have not had those kind of leaders for a very long time. But even though people were educated, they also tend to break the rules. Take for example the traffic enforcers. They were educated and told by their leader not to accept bribe. But when drivers break the rules and get caught, they tend to bribe the officer to refrain from getting caught.
This can also happen on political leaders. If one had broken the rules, they also tend to bribe the people who have higher position than them.
That is so true. People's interpretation of corruption is completely different from one country to another. For example, when the ANC took over in South Africa, money that has been budgeted for expenditure by Departments found its way often into the personal pockets of ANC officials in charge of those Departments, their arguments being obviously that it was pay-back time and it is really "their money". Same with Mugabe in Zimbabwe. They would never see it as corruption. Only as "their money".Now, just to play the devil's advocate, what if corruption is acceptable? It simply means that government dotes on those who can pay their way. If you can't then you don't have as much say. Sort of like those Christians that decided fortune was a sign of God's favor. In a corrupt country, wealth allows you to do as you please and no one is surprised. Plus it allows those that are successful in gaining a government position the ability to enhance their own income, there by limiting taxes.![]()
Thanks that no one is like him. The world will be very much in danger if a world leader idolizes him.As long as there are people who want more power than what they have, then corruption will be there. At least for the moment, lets be glad we don't have Emperor Palpatine...
Absolutely agreed, power and control, and of course greed as well. Once people have access to funds and a little is not enough anymore. That is why I am so worried about bailing out banks to the tune of 1.2-trillion. You are among people with egos, and also once they have tasted millions, greed will take over as well, and we're in for corruption and a few scandals ... all the ingredients are set.As long as there are people who want more power than what they have, then corruption will be there. At least for the moment, lets be glad we don't have Emperor Palpatine...
Great article. How about adding "ego" to the equation. I would have thought that would go with selfishness. As well as "neediness". Neediness would go hand in hand with greed. May be a person who can't make ends meet, or has special needs such as having to look after someone who needs major medical care.According to an article I have read, the two major causes of corruption are selfishness and greed. They basically become corrupted to easily get anything that a person, powerful to be exact, wants.

Nicely put.History is replete (love that word) with examples of excessive power and the corruption that accompanies it. Poverty is one cause of corruption, greed another, but simply put the world is capricious and what little buffer can be made from the rude shocks of life are constructed at the expense of others.
I don't know there is any way to end corruption. The socialist and anarchist responses to the powerful capitalist and imperial aspects of European society led to the Russian revolution, which did nothing to end corruption, but actually institutionalized it.
Every country reports some sort of corruption occasionally, even those with very stable societies. I suspect that the only way to end corruption would be extinction.
I definitely agree. Even a kid would want more. Right?Nicely put.Was also thinking that "this is life!" and it is in our genes perhaps to always want more.
Right. I think we can only do our best. We do have rules and regulations and hopefully also a code of ethics. Perhaps we have to accept it will always stay with us and we won't ever be able to win this, but at least we can try our best and fight it when we see it happening.I definitely agree. Even a kid would want more. Right?
I remember a tv commercial about corruption. They said that we should learn how to prevent it starting from childhood. But how could we learn how if the adults don't teach us and don't even knew how to prevent it, especially the one in power.
