What is the Taliban Afraid Of?

It must be humiliating to be so fearful of a 14 yr. old girl that you resort to shooting her in the head, yet fail to kill her, and then threaten to try again as soon as you can. It just seems to me such cowardly actions represent a level of insecurity beyond imagine.

I understand the underlying fear is a cultural manifestation of a patriarchal society desperate to keep its stinky foot on the necks of women...but seriously.

How do you all view this situation?

Eradication is a word that springs to mind.
The girl in question was allowed out of hospital yesterday. Short life ahead sadly.

Though I think what the Taliban did to this girl was deplorable and it should not have happened. I am glad she is doing better. Though in reality that is the risk one takes in that part of the world to express ones views.

Risk due to courageous action. I personally find her inspirational.

They are following the beliefs laid out in the Koran. Islam is the best example of the negative and unthinking effect of religion on the human brain. The Taliban are cowards of the highest degree.

Attack by imperialist scumbags gives power to patriotic nutters, obviously. Stop murdering people and go home and it will give decent people a chance.

.....Um.....Okay, so you feel it is justified then.

Opinion noted.

I would point out however, that those responsible for this action became what they currently are long before the U.S. had a footprint there...and shortly after the Soviets removed theirs.

The only ones murdering during this unoccupied time seems to have been them...and they are far from "decent people". I am unable to see any justification for trying to blow the brains out of a little girl because she wants to get an education.

I understand your point, and can even agree to parts of it as we (in my opinion) should have never invaded the country in the first place, yet what they tried to do sickens me and places a blanket disgust over anyone associated with them.

The Americans - and others - financed them heavily TO destroy progress under soviet leadership, and in the case of many Muslim countries they have been under almost continuous foreign attack since the days of Napoleon. If you think of what some of the nastier elements in our own societies would have done under such circumstances you'd grasp the point, I think. I have known a great number of very civilized persons from Iraq, Pakistan and (especially) Iran, let alone various heroes from Palestine. Some of the Afghan tribes have had a terrible hammering, and the worst elements inevitably rule, particularly amongst the battered Pushtu.

I am forced to agree, even compliment you on relatively in depth understanding of the history that created such nasty people, and the pathetic means they use to further said power. My point however stands...this little girl was brutally attacked because she was vocal in her wish to change the plight of females in the culture.

The Taliban is a cowardly and worthless group of misguided and backward men afraid of losing power to the point of absolute stupidity and brutality.

A Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot in the head by the Taliban has been discharged from hospital after making a good recovery following surgery.

Malala Yousafzai, 15, was attacked in October after campaigning for girls' rights to education.

A bullet was removed from her head by surgeons in Pakistan, before she was flown to the UK for further treatment.

She had a titanium plate and cochlear implant fitted at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Saturday.

The hospital's medical team said it had been "very pleased" with the progress Malala had made after two operations, lasting more than five hours, at the weekend.

The Taliban are afraid of what most people who practice prejudicial culture traditions are afraid of. Simply put, obsolescence of their traditions. it often occurs in societies where the pressure to let go of antiquated tradition by the young inhabitants of said culture see an injustice that is over looked by tradition.

It's happened many times in this nation (united states) and is actually happening right now.
