Economic factors are what are primarily at play. You have it backwards. And the adaption of a particular currency does impact the economy- tremendously.

What do you mean?

You know, dollar, frank, mark, pound.

If you have currency there has to be a way to establish it's value. I.e. a dollar has a value because it is established by the government. Meaning a dollar is worth a dollar anywhere in the USA.

That is what i mean. We measure currency in dollars and cents.

How do you do that without political influence

Currency is based off the wealth of a particular country and the amount of gold it has in store. Now of course by using a gold system standard was to replace with what the US use now.

Politics have a very small part of what one currency is worth against another. Foreign Exchange Markets basically level the field of trade between countries and the values of the currency. Other factors contribute to the value such as war, economy, and other factors that do include politics.
