And wouldn't Vatican City be the most fundamentalist?
When I was doing my searches I found reference to the United States as being fundamentalist  but I agree, Roman Catholic would be good competition for Islam Fundamentalism. Although like with religions in the West, some are more fundamentalist than the others, so was wondering whether Dirk has come across literature that would have ranked Islamic Fundamentalist countries in order of most fundamentalist?

We have a constitution banning state-religion and a growing atheist (and for that matter, Muslim) population. How anyone could consider us Christian fundamentalists is beyond me. Hell, Protestants only make up 51%of the population now!

Totally right. But probably when one pursues fundamentalists, some of it rubs off on you, not only in their eyes, but even in the eyes of your own people. The link below is not the one I saw when I made my comment in my previous posting, but I would have imagined that their debate would have been similar nonsense:http://www.sullivan-county.com/news/
Don't think for one minute Christian fundamentalists are a bunch dumb rednecks, they aren't. Their main activists are rich, white, most are "baby-boomers, and their agenda is power and money. Their leadership is college educated and not a bunch of country bumpkins.

I checked up on this on the Internet and could not find any literature about Saudi Arabia being the most religiously fundamentalist country in the world. Do you know of a source that lists the countries in a ranking order of islamic fundamentalists?

Not as far as i'm aware.

It was more common sense. I mean, it's ruled by the Wahabbi movement and an absolute monarchy.

Well, in Saudi Arabia, the official education system indoctrinates children into Islamic fudamentalism. Catholic schools are actually quite open - they encourage a good bit of debate and questioning etc. I have a friend that went to one.

They oppose tombstones, and statues, because it is considered idolatry - polytheism.

Women are horribly oppressed, there is disgusting censorship, it follows literalist Shar'ia Law, gays are abhorrently treated. Punishments for "homosexual activity" include death, flogging and amputation of hands, feet, penis, etc.

Some of what you say is right on, but I think there is a little bit of a lack of appreciation of a completely different culture in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia. Women are suppressed, but somehow they are making progress as well. The country is the wealthiest in the region, and also is spending money on specialists, there is a thriving expat community in Saudi. I would not want to live there, but it could be an interesting experience. Malaysia is also quite fundamentalist though.

The worst part is it's all fake Shar'ia Law. I mean really, how do you oppress a sex in the name of a legal system that names them the masters of all wealth? If SA was truly ruled by Shar'ia Law, all banks would be lead by woman and most CEO's would also be woman. A fact that the House of Suad likes to ignore. :p

Right. Saudi Arabia is not a good place for a woman to be. Even for women from outside Saudi Arabia who are professionals. They may not be able to attend some of the functions that are organized during international conferences. Diving can also be trickey. They have to wear the black dress with heads covered. If they apply to enter the country, they get carefully scrutinized, most get permission from their fathers or brothers, and be accompanied by the latter when they visit Saudi.

Women aren't allowed to drive on public roads.

That would cut down on traffic here.:p

I think to make the roads a safer and less busy place, they should really ban men from driving on public roads. Because men are far more prone to higher levels of testosterone (obviously), they're more prone to road rage.

Naturally, this hypothetical situation is ridiculous. The motivation for banning women from driving is sexism.

True. But I do hate to see "anyone" putting on makeup while driving.:p

That's probably just about anyone's pet hate. Along with cell phones (to use the American term) and cigarettes.

;)
Cell phones are first on the list. Make-up even worse. I've seen people reading while they are driving!!!!! I notice that some countries have started with legislation against texting with mobile phones as well. I guess eating and drinking are also distracting, especially when what you are eatin falls on your lap or on the floor, and you spill your drink.

Right, that, most of all, as of course people start to fiddle with it when these gadgets aren't working and puzzle about it being completely distracted from what is going on out on the road.
