France, Italy, Belgium, and Spain are banning short-selling temporarily to "stabilize markets". A smart move or one that just shows they know their system is failing? I'd say the latter. If this move ends up being anything like what happened here in the States after the SEC banned shorting post-Lehman, it isn't going to be pretty. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...-short-sales-to-halt-rout-in-bank-shares.html
I am for anything that trips up the speculators in anyway.;)

Shorting is not limited to speculators. Anyone can buy shorts- even everyday investors. It is just as legitimized today as is regular buying (there are even short ETFs and mutual funds that investors can buy as stocks).

I just don't like speculators. I know I rave about them every time I get a chance. They are like slumlords to poor city people to me. I have no respect for them. And I try to respect most people most of the time.
