Ok so I'm sure everyone has heard about this where Obama slipped up and said he was Muslim and then his brother speaking out saying he was Muslim yet Obama says he is not.

The thing I want to know is would it be ok for a Muslim to run America if not then why?

Yes America is a Christian country as is the UK Tony Blair was a Catholic and then has to join the Church of England when he became Prime Minister and later converted back when he stepped down as Prime Minister.

Though Catholics are seen as Christians what I am trying to get at is what does religion have to do with Politics it always seems to be left out of it in this day and age anyway would it matter if Obama was Muslim would it make a difference on how the country was run.

Your opinions please and I will add mine at a later date.

More than religion, you also have to take into account character. Character tells you how the person will use their religion. Of course, here in America any Muslims candidates will probably be very moderate.

I have no problem with a Muslim running for office, I would vote for them in a heartbeat if they agreed with my views on the issues.

Unfortunate, it will take the rest of the country some more time before the are ready. While it is great, we have stepped over a huge milestone by electing an African-American president, a Muslim president is a whole new ballgame.

In the midst of a "War on Terror" that happens to encompass the fanatical wing of Islam, there are lots of people who are either ignorant or just don't know. If you need evidence, just look at the Obama rumors this election cycle.

And this problem isn't just for the Muslims.

Look at Mitt Romney in the primaries. He was heavily criticized just for being a Mormon. Kennedy took a lot of pressure as a Catholic. The biggest mistake in politics (the religious right), has enormous bigotry and deep rooted animosity for anybody not evangelical.

You know, I though about that ever since I heard his name. I thought to myself, after all the things that are happening with terrorists. People are gonna bring this up sooner or later... and they have. Barack Obamas religion and ethnicity turned off a lot of the voters, but in the end they were tired of the things that came to be. So they wanted something different. And hopefully they will get it.

It's a shame the country is filled with such stereotypical people and it's sad when people hear the world Muslim they associate it with Terrorist.

I know of so many Christians who have turned out to be mass murderers or killers people who have done real bad things in the name of Jesus (so they say) but I don't consider these people Christians nor do I consider terrorists as Muslims.

Religion practices PEACE and anyone who is breaking this isn't following there holy word the way they should no matter how they look into there holy book.

Yeah, when I read your post I remembered the Verginia Tech shooting a few years back.. He was a disgrace to all Christians and deserved to go to Hell (but I do not claim any authority to send him to Hell).

And for what you said about the stereotypical Americans, there must have been more non-stereotypical Americans than stereotypical Americans, because the black president beat the white president.
And yes, I know what your talking about when people think muslim = terrorist, but that's how stereotypes are. We live in a world full of them.

Firstly, a person who says he/she is not a muslim is not a muslim.

Although religion and politics should not be mixed, it is imperative these days that people think a 100 times before voting for someone who does not belong to their faith. More so when the said person does not belong to the majority community of that country.

If someone like Hitler could run Germany casting aspersions on Obama's Presidency is a moot point!

Because isn't it obvious that if they don't say they are something, that they aren't that something? Maybe if they say they ARE muslim, they usually aren't a muslim, but your statement makes no sense at all (because it's too obvious of a common sense knowledge). Could you clarify what you meant by that?

And I disagree with what you said about voting for someone who does not belong to their faith.. why would it matter if I'm a Christian and say I voted for a Muslim to be president? I really don't think religion should interfere with how the way things are done in real life, it's their decision to choose their own religion, so you should just leave them alone...

Well Obama Said That He is no Muslim.. Yeah it is true His Grand mother who was Muslim Feed him, but still can not make him a Muslim.

Please dont mix religion and Politic.. i know it could be a big Question mark if Obama says that He is Muslim.. Coz we can see this time almost 75% Muslims Hate USA Government

There's a lot that has to be accounted to when choosing who to elect for president, and religion shouldn't be one of them (however, we don't live in the perfect world that we always dream of, so I guess it's one of the main reasons..). I think the most contributing factor to Obama's win against McCain were his speeches. Just the way he talked said a lot about his passion to lead the country, but we all know actions speak louder than words

Also, another main reason was change. People wanted change, and being the first black pres. that he is, that brings upon change, and the Americans think that will help them with the real change that they need.

I honestly think all those wrong doers don't actually believe in God and they just say they do to justify their actions. I often see people do bad things and blame others to justify for their acts. The whole revenge concept is popular amongst humans and it's a desire that can turn quite deadly. We see this a lot in our streets with gang warfare, a gang member gets killed and in retaliation they kill another from a rival gang, and the cycle keeps on going.

As long as Obama does the right thing, it won't matter what "religion" he is.

I feel Americans are very liberal and not stereotypes that they judge people based on their religion. Obama has already created trust among the people that he?ll make difference, so lets not judge him on his origin but lets just wait and see how he brings the changes he promised.

Oops! I think I haven't visited this thread for too long!

To begin with the first sentence is in response to those dumba** who still maintain that Obama is a muslim. Yes, when someone says they aren't this or that, they might be lying then but in Islam, when it comes to denouncing your faith even in the face of death, one cannot lie. Does that explain the 1st sentence?

The second para now: If those are your views, hats off to you but lets face it, you are in a minority. Bill Gates can bet his wealth that the US people will never ever elect a muslim for a President. Just like how a Jew can never head Pakistan, a muslim Israel and etc etc etc.

Ideally politics and religion shouldn't be mixed but wake up people, we do not live in an ideal world!

To start with i dont think he's a Muslim, his dad was one. Even if he is a Muslim, that'd be good, coz he would work to bring America and Muslims together which is needed for world peace.

He alone can decide whether to do some good in this world, or bad, and that is where any judging should take place.
