Okay...it seems if the term assault weapon is used, it is not an agreed upon term. Modern weapon (used to state the same thing) is also not acceptable...so what shall we call a type of gun that fires large amounts of ammunition in a short period of time, that has no true use other than killing many things quickly or making a redneck cum from the raw power?

Lets just call it a killing machine.

No you keep it how they are classified not Automatic Weapons, Semiautomatic Weapon, Manual load weapons.

To make up all new classification is quite useless in my eyes. If you are going to Classsify a certain gun as an assault weapon all guns could be classified like that as could knives, bats, pots, pans. Assault Weapon is a dumb term used to scare people.

Assault weapon is simply sensationalism. Of you consider an AR 15 an assault weapon, than the so called "assault weapon ban" is silly. Most guns used in assault are pistols, such a tiny fraction of assault is committed by AK 47s and AR 15s (two most common combat rifles) the most common weapon used in assault is a .22LR, which is the most common fire arm used in the united states. The caliber .22LR is not used in any weapon known as an "assault weapon".

an assault weapon ban is a complete miss of the target, mostly because no weapon fits such an obscure category hence the legally owned AR 15 involved in the CT shooting was not an assault weapon being that it could be legally owned in Connecticut, a state that has a ban on assault weapons.

We need to move away from this term assault weapon, it really has no meaning and can easily be maneuvered around.

Ya, myp really needs to add a rep system. lol

Rather not have all the liberals give liberals rep and conservatives give conservatives rep until the side that is more populous gets the members with higher rep. Rep doesn't work for a forum like this :p

Might still add that thanks/like thing though...

A like button would be great. I personally came from a forum with an extensive rep system and could care less about it. I found it caused more headaches then it was good.

I agree, like is cool but the rep points I don't like.

I don't think it will pass. It's way too drastic and exclusive. While a lot of people may agree with it, I think that too many will disagree with specifics in it and it'll end up being dropped.

I not so sure it would seem some believe it could pass in Illinois.

That's BULL and you know it. Gun folks have defined the assault rifle for 50+ years. You sound like the people who try to say there's no such thing as a Pit Bull...(then they say that non existant dog is really gentle)

The SWARM of LIES about this stuff...shows the STATE OF MIND that gravitates to the guns with the big clips, rapid fire. There's a FETISH to it something where some turn guns into sex objects or religious things or both.

Illinois is NOT going to ban " all guns". As with the Bill Feinstein wants, it's primarily about Assault Rifles. It ought to fully BAN clips/mags over 10 rd. Generally if you have a gun like a Bushmaster/AR-15,it's somewhat grandfathered...the large magazines are not. What may be new relative to the earlier assault weapon ban...is that while you likely get to keep it...you can't sell it.

When you can find an HONEST account...a pump action shotgun is NOT included. The CHICKEN LITTLE cultish panic....seems so crazy it's counterproductive. Shouting out " We are Delusional, full of rage and we can't be content to only killing 10 people at once! " Just MIGHT backfire on the far right bloggers along with the NRA type.

To my knowledge, semi-auto "deer rifles" without removable mags...will be fine.

Illinois may get stricter with handguns than whatever federal law. The MAIN issue there...is gray market sales that result in guns that are untraceable, unregistered. If you are too paranoid to register your handgun...you are too paranoid to have it.

The WWII Sturm Gewher is generally considered the first assault rifle. The AK-47 and several others arrived later. The idea was to have a SMG's rate of fire and a midsize-midrange round. The BAR, invented at about the end of WWI, looks like a big assault rifle. Because the 30.06 is quite a powerful and long range round,it was often classed as a light machine gun. Often it was used with a bipod as it was pretty hard to manage on full auto otherwise. The M-14 fires the .308,a considerably more potent round than what's in the AK-47 or the M-16/AR-15. However...The US Army stopped using them due to the weight...and due to not many soldiers being accurate beyond 200+ yards.

Assault Rifle IS a well known category and it's one with well known charachteristics.

And were the "specifics" honestly stated and described....it WOULD be quite hard to enact.

Look above..." Gun Owners will be Criminals in Illinois" That is of course a lie.
The vast majority won't be affected at all. Many others will be legal...with limitations. My uncle hunted and made custom stocks. He had at least 20 guns and NONE of those would be affected at all. He did have a revolver..and it was registered.

Sorry about that! When something like that happens to me, I usually open up notepad, copy/paste my response there and then when the site is back up, I can paste it in. Usually if you hit the back button right after seeing the error message of the site not being found, you can still recover the text.
