"McALESTER, Okla. – A botched execution that used a new drug combination left an Oklahoma inmate writhing and clenching his teeth on the gurney Tuesday, leading prison officials to halt the proceedings before the inmate's eventual death from a heart attack.
Clayton Lockett, 38, was declared unconscious 10 minutes after the first of the state's new three-drug lethal injection combination was administered. Three minutes later, though, he began breathing heavily, writhing, clenching his teeth and straining to lift his head off the pillow.

The blinds were eventually lowered to prevent those in the viewing gallery from watching what was happening in the death chamber, and the state's top prison official eventually called a halt to the proceedings. Lockett died of a heart attack a short time later, the Department of Corrections said.
"It was a horrible thing to witness. This was totally botched," said Lockett's attorney, David Autry."

He must be on death for some reason, probably murder, yet it was "horrible" to witness his suffering? Boo ****ing hoo. He more than likely deserved it.

He raped, sodomized, and beat a 17 yr. old girl before burying her alive.

I'd say he got off a bit better than she did. They should have given him to the guy scheduled after him, pumped him full of Viagra and Ecstacy.....and locked them is a room.

Sick bastard. I may have violent thoughts sometimes, but I definitely can tell the line between fantasy and reality and have never crossed it...

I never saw the point in being humane when KILLING someone. Ether put a bullet in them or have them fight another condemned to the death. ;)

I'm against cruel and unusual punishment, mainly because we don't always get the guilt or innocence part right. no doubt we have convicted and put to death some innocent people. it's part of being human, we make mistakes, but lets not make those mistakes worse by inflicting cruelty upon any innocent.

I do believe in swifter justice however, when the guilty is 100% known to be guilty by nature of the crime (mass shootings, caught in the act, etc.). I'm for those types being quickly executed with a short trial and minimal allowances for appeals.

so for the execution in question, it is my opinion that it was likely divinely augmented (karma, judgment, etc.) and not "botched".:skull:

probably most criminals have mental health issue at some level. thankfully we still hold them accountable.

I'm all for cruel punishment IF there is absolute proof that the person is guilty. Let them be mauled to death by hungry lions, or stoned to death, whatever.

I think the punishment ought to fit the crime.

How about we just abolish capital punishment? There isn't really much good reason to keep it around.

what do you mean?

No death penalty. Philosophical and moral arguments aside (although they do matter), it costs more in legal fees to get someone to death than it would leaving them in a jail cell for life.

Perhaps instead of using the criminal justice system in a punitive way we could start considering using it to identify what makes people commit these types of crimes and learn to watch for these behaviors and correct them before the people exhibiting them become criminals. And perhaps we could recognize mental health issues before it's too late.

Especially when some want to cut funding for the NIH, FDA, etc. because of some ideological myth that all government spending is bad and that the US can't repay its debt right?
I would think it would be cheaper to reserve jails for violent offenders only. How many pot heads do we lock up? What is the purpose of locking these people up? Jail space is a commodity. Using it as a rehab clinic seems strange to me. On top of that sometimes drug offenders wouldn't be violent except we lock them into prisons where they are raped and terrorized and turned loose into a world that they wellhave extreme difficulty functioning in. It's why there is such high recidivism among low level offenders.

The problem is not capital punishment or not, it's that American prisons are like hotels. If you take away all rights, all the bullshit criminals get to do, and esp. their friggin' cigarettes, I promise you, crime will go down.

There are a few other issues with the criminal justice system this would only make criminals more desperate not to return by any means necessary, they typically don't do"straighten up and fly right"

Yeah, when I was a wee lad, I still can remember my grandma saying if you don't behave, you go to jail, and all they give you is bread and water. If it really was the case, I'm sure there would be very few repeat offenders! :D

I say kill all current inmates. Use their organs for transplants, their meat to feed the starving, and their skin to clothe the homeless.

See my previous post. :D

People doing a 2 year term for possession of controlled substance isn't a good reason to execute them.

I am not so sure that the capital punished really serves a purpose other than vindication. It doesn't really stop that type of crime.

I think we ought to reevaluate the criminal justice system.
