First of all I know that this is a rather old subject but race relations are still a big thing and I noticed there were no threads on this subject. I wanted to put a poll out to see what you guys thought.

Please post on how you voted and why you voted that way.

I voted that he is NOT racist. Not only has the officer had a spotless and distinguished record, his career demonstrates how he understands the importance of race (he taught classes against discrimination, fellow african- american officers supported him).

Louis Gates came looking for a fight from the beginning. I mean honestly, a distinguished Harvard professor making "yo mama" jokes to an officer? That's downright pathetic.

I voted 'no' too. Crowley was doing his job. Gates was being abusive towards him. It ended up in something of discrimination in reverse, Gates reacting towards a police officer on the basis that he is white with typical white attitudes, instead of a police officer having being called to attend to unrest of which Gates was the main culprit. He acted also without dignity unbecoming a Harvard University Professor. Worst part for me was Obama taking sides. That was clearly interference of a great magnitude and completely unbecoming behaviour for the President too.

This is a copy of the Police Report by Crowley that I found on the Internet:

The evidence suggests it wasn't. And even if it was, it's not a political matter, but a simple issue of contemporary morality. I.e. Obama should not have gotten involved as he did.
