I'm actually somewhat annoyed by all this "war hero" excuse that's grown up around McCain supporters.

To Republican supporters in general, i ask, in the last election, did you vote for McCain?

If yes, was it because he was a "war hero"?

If yes, did you vote for John Kerry in 2004?

John Kerry won three purple hearts. He was more of a "war hero" than McCain. It's frankly a pathetic excuse.

I totally agree on this. For me he was more of a war veteran anyway, than he was a hero. His accomplishments to me were not that enormous that he should qualify for war hero status. As far as I could see from his bios at that time, he mostly thrived on family with lots of money and good connections.

John Kerry married money. And look who's money he married. I just don't like him or agree with him on anything. But then I don't like Gore either.

Yes, I voted republican, No, not because McCain was a war hero. No I did not vote for kerry. First of all, McCain was a public figure because he was a POW shown on TV many many times. OK I agree he took a lot of pain being a POW. Thats where it stops. I knew others that were captured and they never came home. Others that were in camps, being tortured every hour for days. They ween't there when teams went in to get them out. Theres penty more . As far as kerry goes, now there's a piece of work. A self made hero. He lied about most of his small tour in Nam. He is a Coward and a traitor from the word go. His purple hearts are questionable anyway. You can get them for a scratch a splinter or a hangnail. He had no major wounds. Unlike others that deserve the purple hearts for their being seriously wounded in combat. Hes just another one to capitalize on his brief tour in Viet Nam. Theres plenty more. Its one thing to vote for a war hero that deserves the recognition because he or she is truly a hero and someone that just uses the word for their own gain. When you have seen true heros its hard to see others that claim to be. McCain without a dought was tortured an was a hero, but somehow the media took some of it away.

Yes, I agree with you on the points you make.

I understand that Americans may want to show their war heroes that they appreciate them and the contributions to the country etc, but you don't make them President.

We all knew that Obama was going to when the US Presidential election anyway. So no harm done. :D

Well there are only two candidates, I think McCain would be worse.

The main thing I like about Obama is his healthcare policy, which I hope he delivers!

I hope he does too. Then I would know he will be a one term president! Because this government can not run anything right. I know government health care. And it sucks. When I was a child I had it because my father was in the Navy. And as an old man I have it again with Medicare. They can screw up a three word sentence.

The Scottish national health service workes very well, and the Scottish Government run that. No one is left without health care.

People are happy with the system, it could work in the US.

You hope that a plan that sucks so much so as to get capitalists and socialists agreeing with each other is a good thing?

Actually, in the UK, there is a capitalist party that (at least claims to) approve of the NHS.

Though to be fair, the NHS is part-privatised and part-nationalised. It would actually cost a lot less to have it fully nationalised. Until it can be handed down to independent democratically accountable workers' soviets (which are community based). That would be my ideal system.

It can be improved over the years, but something has to be done now.

Agreed, but why 'fix' a broken down car by trading it in for a rusted hubcap? Better to just spend the money and time to get an off-the-assembly-line car.

Agreed. But then is this not a sign all over the UK right now, right down from a tube service in London that is in major need of complete overhaul? They probably need to do the equivalent of Heathrow, by building new projects from scratch to get things going again. Including the NHS.

The NHS in Scotland anyway is very good and turns no one away, It is affordable and practical. If anyone tried to take the NHS away from Scotland there would be an uproar, Why? because its good and it words.

The US health care system is sick.

I'm not from Scotland but an expat in the Middle East surrounded by quite a number of Scots. They don't share your positive view of the Scottish NHS. They complain about overcrowded waiting rooms, inability to see doctors, inability to get operations early enough, and fear of infections coming from operating theatres. They prefer to be treated in the Middle East, which is not a recommendation for the Middle East but more an indictment of the standard of medical services that is available to them in the UK or Scotland. Including dentist services. I would say the NHS is sick. The NHS needs some medical treatment, and a major overhaul. Maybe starting from scratch?
