Even though Canada was rated second overall, they were only in the top five in only two categories while the US was in the top five in three categories. As a tourist destination, I would have put New Zealand first and they were only rated.thirteenth overall. It depends more on individual interest than on some kind of net score.
Another interesting point. There are nine categories rated. If you take Canada's ratings for all nine categories and average them, you get 14.7, which is lower than the overall US rating.
All of this just shows the uselessness of such surveys.

There is a lot of hypocrisy in such ratings. They are deciding that this country is better than that country based on some fairly arbitrary criteria. Yet Trump is criticized for allegedly saying some African countries are s...holes.
The African countries are rated much lower by this survey. If the US is not worth living in with an eighth place ratings, those African countries must really be terrible.

You mean by selling us less expensive goods than we can produce? I would say the solution is to lower the cost of producing goods in the US so that we would no longer be exploiting them. Maybe by lowering the taxes on corporations.
All that does is increase profits ergo increases shareholder dividends I would seriously doubt its passed back to the consumer. I think the US is going to have some issues with wage inflation very soon which may well impact on pricing etc. Is union bargaining power still strong in the US?
They often put a LOT of money back into the company to expand, modernize, and hire to become even more competitive - hello?! :smug:

You can do that anyway the cost of capital in the financial markets is so cheap. If you have the majority of your corporate equity in the open markets and ALL you competitors have an equal access to that equity wouldn't you want to buy back your stock to protect your company from a raider?
Corporation taxes are an expense item. There are a number of things they can do when the taxes (expenses) are lowered. They can increase the pay for employees as a number of corporations have done. They can lower the price of the products, which I believe most will end up doing because of competition. Or they can increase the profits for the stockholders or put the money back into the corporation.. I do not have a problem with any of those options because I believe that ultimately they will benefit the economy of the US and me.

numan, I am glad you endorsed this survey. You look upon the US as a shithole. Yet in this survey, which you endorsed, we are rated number eight. Eight, on the world stage is pretty darn good. The survey lists only eighty of the countries in this world. Eight, puts us in the top ten percent.
Now lets look at those nations which are not much better than the US or even worse. Sweden and Australia are only marginally better at sixth and seventh. Ranked immediately below us are France, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, New Zealand, Finland and Italy. I won't even mention those countries down near the eighty mark in the survey. They have to be really bad.

I should probably remind you at this point that I did not vote for Trump or Hilary and did not believe either are worthy of my vote for president. However, other than his language, I have no serious disagreement with his actions so far. If and when I see these "inevitable" disasters, I will react accordingly.
