The Growing Homeless Population

It is quite sad to see anybody having to live without decent shelter. Why the population is growing is unclear. A recent study of exploding San Diego homeless on why they exist shows that it is not due to laziness or that they chose to be that way, rather it is due to drug & alcohol abuse, and mental illness.

We were shocked to see many homeless on the freeway hillsides here in Portland, OR.

homelessness was pretty rampant in Hawaii too. You'd drive by streets that were essentially homeless shanty towns.

the worst was seeing children of homeless families. a whole family of 4 or 5 living in a tent, including 1 and 2 year olds.

choice does happen in varying degrees though. getting addicted to drugs is something someone does, it is not something done to you.

I think they flock to warm climates (for obvious reasons). But Portland is quite cold much of the year. The town seems to have rich "techies" and the poor, but not much of a middle class.

The problem could be easily solved by a program of low-cost subsidized housing --- the "free market" will never solve the housing crisis.

The bottom line is that oligarchs only exist where there is an oligarchy system in place. :smug:
