Does Obama get the unemployment crisis?

I read an interesting editorial by Bob Herbert of the New York Times, asking whether Obama has an understanding for the unemployment crisis, as he seems to be doing precious little about it. Do you agree with his views on this?
Nearly one in four American families has suffered a job loss over the past year, according to a survey released by the Economic Policy Institute. Nearly 1 in 10 Americans is officially unemployed, and the real-world jobless rate is worse.

We’re running on a treadmill that is carrying us backward. Something approaching 10 million new jobs would have to be created just to get back to where we were when the recession began in December 2007. There is nothing currently in the works to jump-start job creation on that scale.

A massive long-term campaign to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure — which would put large numbers of people to work establishing the essential industrial platform for a truly 21st-century American economy — has not seriously been considered. Large-scale public-works programs that would reach deep into the inner cities and out to hard-pressed suburban and rural areas have been dismissed as the residue of an ancient, unsophisticated era.

No one cares, so long as bosses can keep paying themselves obscene bonuses.

Well, no one cares, except for the American public. But they're not important. No need to worry about them for another three and a half years.

True. Nobody cares. The Bank Bail-outs are testimony of that as well. The bail-outs were very selective, and to date I still don't know how the money was employed. Complete lack of transparency.

No he doesn't and they're about to use all the people who run out of unemployment as a statistic to pull the wool over American's eyes about a economic recovery.

Actual unemployment in my county is 14% alone, in the city I live in its near 17%, but a lot of people's unemployment beneifts are about to run out and they're expecting the number to drop 3-4% across the board here because of that, but people will still be out of a job.

I'm vary quickly tiring of President Obama's Rightist policies. I knew he wasn't a socialist but dang, I was thinking he was at least a social-democrat from what he was saying during the campaign.
