Can't be true. As one of the characteristics of a police state is curbing "freedom" of the press. During Bush's reign, there could not have been more Internet Websites and blogs that could have been more critical of him, not to mention the Press. Bush became the American people's excuse for not taking responsibility for their political participation. Much easier to blame everything on Bush.

Besides which, the political system just won't allow a President to have such a lot of power, i.e. to create a Politce State. Bush was given a role to play, and he did the best he could with the hand that got dealt to him. He did not do diplomacy well, but he did most of everything well, he never hesitated.

Patriot Act? Searches and seizers without warrants? Arrests without charge or speedy trial? An open distain for the Constitution (which our current president shares to an extent)? Violations of the Geneva Convention (by not calling POWs POWs)? Need I go on? It was quite close even if it stopped short. We were saved by 1 simple fact, President Bush didn't actually want to be a dictator, the peaces just fell in that direction. If we had someone doing what he did on purpose...

Did all of that happen legimately however? So many accusations have been levelled at Bush, but none proven so far. If he has been responsible for the above "atrocities", why was he not impeached? He managed to hang on for two election terms. Is he really that bad? Are the American people really that powerless? What about the system of checks and balances? Does not compute for me.

Was he the best he could have been? No. In my opinion he was not as bad as all the haters said either. If you you look back they started in trashing him before he took the oath the first time. Before 911, before any wars and the Patriot Act. So after 8 years of hate, cartoons, and jokes there is the result. Be interesting to see how this one looks when the shine wears off in a few years. When you start out on such a giddy high as Obama down is the only way you can go. And he got that high just by talking a good game. Okay time for him to play the game now.

:giggle:. I still can't get over the fact that in spite of being so very unpopular he got elected a second time round. How did that happen?

He was not as unpopular as the media made it sound. He was unpopular with the haters and complainers. Which was most of the media.;)

I think Dirk was making a sarcastic reference to the first election possibly not counting as it had been dishonest.
I know. But I don't think it was anymore "dishonest" than the others. Just depends on which side you were on who you believe.;)

Gore won the election by what, a million votes? I really don't see how it could be called honest.

I don't believe Gore won anymore than you believe Bush won. But it is way to late to argue it now. And Gore is making more money than he ever made before. Flying around the world in a private plane telling people to stop driving SUVs.:p

Gore didn't win the election. A group of reporters went over the election several months after it was decided and said Bush won, not by much but he had more votes. I'll try to find the reference.

I was in Florida then, and I have no doubt Bush won. I am in NW Florida, in the Central time zone, and I know people that would have voted for Bush but did not vote because the press called the vote for Gore when the Eastern Time Zone voting ended.

The Democrats (Gore) were also successful in keeping a lot of military absentee ballots from being counted. The military is overwhelmingly conservative and Bush would have been ahead in that lot - which is exactly why Gore wanted them kept out.

And, to top it off, there were 2 cases of Democrat Party people being caught with blank ballots, and one person (Democrat) caught with blank ballots and a voting machine in his car. When they did the first recount, some of those South Florida districts "found" ballots that they had missed the first time around (just like with Al Franken in Minnesota last year, imagine that).

Bush won in 2000, get over it.

Do you know how many votes more George Bush got? I actually thought Al Gore received more votes, but this is really fascinating. It just comes to show that Americans can make good individual choices - definitely what Bush was.

Before this, I never believed in conspiracy theories really...But after watching that zero: investigation in the 9/11 attack, there is SOMETHING going on....I mean, maybe the government didn't do it, but they are DEFINITELY hiding a lot....
They said that there was sulfur in the metal of the WTCs...and they said that there was thermite on the buildings...and theres no way the WTCs could have come down without a structured demolition....which is exactly what it looked like! It was an implosion!! And then in Madrid, a building burned for 20 hours straight without falling down....yet the WTCs fell down within 45 minutes? AND people were able to get out? It obviously wasn't that hot....and then a 150+ ft Boeing 757 went through a 16 foot whole in the pentagon?? AND there was NO trace of the plane. 3 months before 9/11, the protocol for shooting down planes near the pentagon was changed. They had to consult the pentagon before shooting them down and the pentagon "didn't pick up the phone". And then the pictures of Osama Bin Laden. Why are they all different? This whole thing is complete bullshit which makes me question why Bush wasn't assassinated? When Bush was in office, I was 100% sure that somebody would succeed in his assassination...I wish he had been....He ruined America..

The world is full conspiracy theories. They do seem to go along with our own opinions. I think I see a lot of "conspiracy" in our government today. But I know most of it is just difference of opinions with the group in charge of the country today. Anytime they run and hide "behind closed doors" to change a law I smell "conspiracy"!:p
