CIA deputy director Michael Morell gave the assessment in an interview published by the Wall Street Journal as he prepares to retire after 33 years with the agency.
Mr Morell said there were more foreign fighters flowing into Syria each month to take up arms with al-Qaeda-affiliated groups than there were going to Iraq to fight with al-Qaeda at the height of the war there.
The Syrian government's weapons ''are going to be up for grabs and up for sale'' as they were in Libya when Muammar Gaddafi fell, he added.

There is something uncanny following Michael Morell's warning that the Syrian government's weapons ''are going to be up for grabs and up for sale''. Not very long after his warning, there came reports out of Syria hundreds of civilians were killed in chemical weapons attacks.

Have some chemical weapons already gone "for grabs and sale" into the hands of the rebels?

al-Qaeda failed in Iraq, and they will fail in Syria.

The FSA will use them as canon folder then throw them away as the Baathist Resistance did fighting the Occupation Authority after they were overthrown. The thing is, AQ is dead and has been since '05. Any chance of rebuilding died with OBL. These are just jihadists trying to up themselves by using a popular but defunct brand and thus have no idea what there getting into as the actual AQ leadership is ether dead, hiding or rotting in a concentration camp (because that's what they are). I'm going to enjoy seeing the Jihadists run out of town by there fellow Muslims. It'll be Anbar Province all over again and I'll have the popcorn waiting. :D
