Another Obama lie

Obama tells Jay Leno that "We don't have a domestic spy program" how did he say that with a straight face. Of course Leno gave him a pass. There's plenty of shows he wouldn't have dared say that on.

Here is the latest in a long list that contradicts the CiC.

The US Department of Justice is investigating the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for using invasive surveillance techniques, including wiretapping and logging telephone records into a database, to track Americans connected to illegal drug activity.

It comes after Reuters published a Monday report revealing that a shadowy DEA unit known as the Special Operative Division (SOD) - made up of officials from the FBI, CIA, NSA, IRS, and Department of Homeland Security – funnels information gathered by the DEA to those and other police agencies. Information from DEA wiretaps, informants, and the database of telephone records is passed on, often to investigations bearing no relevance to national security.

Indeed he said as much.....but context and accuracy also come in handy when evaluating commentary. I do not care for the idea, but understand the "WHY".

I'm reminded of Sandra Day O'Conners comments after her retirement when asked about George Bush and the NSA's warrantless (read illegal/unconstitutional) wiretapping. "It takes a long time for a country to degenerate into dictatorship, but we should avoid that end by avoiding this beginning"

And then of course we have a living ex-president who has declared that the US no longer has a functioning democracy. We are broken!

I remember that, and the consideration I gave it. Though O'Conner was pretty good, I did not agree with most of her opinions. Anyone expecting a dictatorship in this country is (in my opinion), uninformed and probably confused.

Disliking our president is okay....disrespecting the office kinda' pisses me off. (speaking as a member)

who are you suggesting is disrespecting the office of the presidency, O'Conner, Carter or myself? Anyway, can you get any more disrespectful of the office of the presidency than to have a sitting president declare that if the president does it then its not illegal. Or joke about the presidents job would be easier if he was a dictator, or call the constitution a piece of paper, and view it as something that gets in the way. Uninformed and confused! Is that how people with differing views are described around here?

On the contrary, it is the law abiding citizens that need be concerned about government crimes against our constitutionally protected liberties. Do you lock your bathroom door because you are contemplating or executing a crime in there, or do you just wish for some privacy. Don't be an enabler of executive branch overreach.

I've got an idea! If you don't want "them" to archive your cell phone records or internet searches just unplug the freaking things and walk away..There is no expectation of privacy when your using a public airway. To think that the recording in some database the numbers you call or the internet addresses of the sites you surf is a functioning spy program is ridiculous. Oh I forgot it's Obama's fault.....all the time

Your not at all representing my stated concerns in that post. Why don't you educate yourself a little and check out senator Church's dire warnings of the NSA back in 1975. I don't JUST blame Obama, he is continuing many of the Bush era poisonous policies, albeit, on steroids. When questioned about George Bush's warrantless (ie. illegal) wiretapping, Sandra Day O'Conner warned of the slippery slope to dictatorship. Considering the continuing concentration of powers to the executive branch, which seems to be escaping you, in general and the NSA's disregard for the fourth amendment more specifically, Jimmy Carter has declared that the US is no longer a functioning democracy. Ill be waiting around to see what civil liberties your willing to surrender next for a little PERCEIVED security.

I agree with Carter not because of the NSA bullshit but because the government, both elected and unelected, have been bought lock, stock and barrel by Wall Street and the big money...I can't remember the source but when W "won" the 2000 election this guy's thoughts were thank God-"government by the big boys, for the big boys shall not perish....." great thought.
